Polymathy academy
A collaboration between the American University of Beirut – Mediterraneo and the Municipality of Paphos, under the leadership of Professor Dr. Georgios Charalambous, the Polymathy Academy aims to nurture a new generation of problem-solvers and critical thinkers in Cyprus, inspired by the spirit of polymathy.
Every Saturday morning, talented and intellectually curious students come together at the AUB Mediterraneo campus to explore mathematics, logic, science, technology and ideas beyond the standard school curriculum.
The Academy is designed not simply to teach mathematics, but to cultivate the habits of mind that mathematics makes possible: curiosity, persistence, creativity, rigorous reasoning and the confidence to tackle problems that do not have an immediate answer.
(Annual programme fee: €200).
The programme seeks to develop strong skills in logical reasoning, creative thinking, and complex problem-solving, preparing students to meet the demands of the modern industry and society.

Programme Philosophy and Core Principles
The programme is based on the following pillars:
- Analytical Thinking: Developing a rigorous approach to problem-solving, with an emphasis on logical deduction, critical analysis, and creative solutions.
- Interdisciplinary Connections: Highlighting the broad applications of mathematics across different fields, fostering an understanding of its relevance beyond theoretical concepts.
- Practical Learning: Going beyond traditional classroom settings to incorporate interactive activities, real-world case studies, and collaborative projects.
- Career Pathways: Demystifying careers in the mathematical sciences and related fields, offering practical guidance and networking opportunities.
- Cambridge Ethos: Instilling the values of intellectual curiosity, independent thinking, and the pursuit of knowledge for its own sake—hallmarks of a Cambridge education.
Mathematical Maturity
Developing a deep understanding of complex mathematical concepts. Students will sharpen their ability to think precisely, generalise, and examine problems from multiple perspectives.
Practical Application
Applying mathematics to real-world problems.
Students will analyse, model, and connect mathematics with technology.
Development of
Soft Skills
Students will develop skills such as critical thinking, teamwork, presentation, and public speaking.
Career Guidance
Through talks by professionals, students will gain an understanding of what it means to pursue a career in mathematics and its applications, and what opportunities are available to them.
